The Poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins

The Poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins In-Person

Gerard Manley Hopkins was a Victorian poet known for his revolutionary use of sprung rhythm. He didn't invent it, but he used it in almost all his poems. Sprung rhythm increases the impact of his verse. Readers and listeners are also moved by Hopkins's images, diction, and emotional energy.

He was not well-known during his lifetime, but his popularity increased after his death. He influenced many poets, including Dylan Thomas and Seamus Heaney.

Audience participation encouraged.
