William Wordsworth: Nature's Poet

William Wordsworth: Nature's Poet In-Person

Nature never did betray the heart that loved her

William Wordsworth (1770 – 1850) is often regarded as a nature poet. Much of his best work is about the natural world, but he also wrote about the cataclysmic events of his time, the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. He was the most famous of that group of Romantic Era poets known as the Lake Poets, becoming Poet Laureate of the UK in 1843. He celebrated the power of imagination. His sonnets are often in anthologies, and many of his short poems such as “I Wandered Lonely As  A Cloud” are famous, but his most well-known work is “Ode: Intimations of Immortality From Recollections of Early Childhood.”
